Hungary refuses ‘political pre-conditions’ in EU deal talks
While the agreement on the European Union COVID-19 recovery deal may be closer, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban (pictured) stands by his previous statement that EU countries should be granted autonomy over the use of the funds, the Hungarian government’s spokesperson Zoltan Kovacs stated on Saturday.
“Latest from #EUsummit: While negotiations on the conditions of the EU recovery fund are now closer to a compromise, PM Orbán is holding the position that only Hungarians should get to decide how to spend the money that belongs to HU. No political pre-conditions can be accepted,” Kovacs wrote in a tweet.
Orban made a similar statement at the beginning of July when he stated that the EU can’t “tell other countries what they need to do.”
