Hungary has confirmed record 10,759 new COVID-19 cases and 213 coronavirus-related deaths over the last 24 hours, the government’s data showed on Friday, pushing the total tally to nearly 550,000 cases and 17,841 fatalities.
In response to the expanding pandemic, the government has extended the imposed restriction measures for another week ending March 28. Meanwhile, close to 1.48 million people received at least one vaccine dose in Hungary, placing the country in second place in the European Union by the amount of administered vaccines.
Commenting on the reopening date, Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced that the restrictions would be lifted once the number of vaccinated people reaches 2.5 million.
