IAEA, Iran fail to reach deal on nuclear plant access – report
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi (pictured left) failed to reach an agreement with Iranian officials to allow the agency’s inspectors access to a factory making nuclear centrifuges, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
According to sources familiar with the talks, Tehran refused to allow IAEA access to the site in Karaj unless Grossi agreed to drop parts of the agency’s investigation into the discovery of undisclosed nuclear material in Iran over the past two years. The negotiations between the two sides reportedly continued overnight in hopes of a deal on the matter.
Next week, Iran and other signatories of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) are set to resume talks on the return to the nuclear deal.
