IAEA, Iran reach deal on monitoring JCPOA implementation
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) reached an agreement on a “temporary bilateral technical understanding” that will allow the United Nations’ watchdog to continue its “necessary verification and monitoring activities for a period of up to three months,” IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi unveiled on Sunday.
Tehran is set to allow the IAEA “less access” in monitoring the country’s nuclear program, Grossi told reporters in Vienna upon his return from Iran, adding the deal is a “good and reasonable result” that “salvages the situation for now.”
“We agreed that we are going to keep this understanding we reached under review constantly – so if we want to suspend it or we want to extend it, this can be done,” he noted.
