Illegal protests against obligatory vaccination in Vienna
Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in Vienna on Saturday to protest the measures the government imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19, which includes mandatory vaccination against the virus starting from February.
The police reported about 38 gatherings around the city, the majority of which did not have permission to take place, while an official one was supposed to take place at 6:00 pm CET. They added that the demonstrations began as stand-alone groupings but then evolved into marches, with people breaching the security forces’ barriers.
Local media reported that the protesters arrived in Vienna as weekend shoppers but ultimately gathered and began demonstrating at several locations in the city, unlike in the past few weeks, when they would summon in the late afternoon Heldenplatz.
