India to start administering booster shots in January
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday the country’s health institutions would start offering COVID-19 booster vaccines to healthcare and frontline workers as well as the elderly population from January 10.
However, minors aged between 15 and 18 years will also be eligible to request their first vaccine from January 3. The move comes as the nation prepares for the spread of the Omicron coronavirus wave, which could hit India as soon as next month.
Shortly after, Indian vaccine maker Bharat Biotech confirmed that its jab was given emergency use authorization in India for children aged 12 to 18.
