Iran bars flights to India over COVID fears
Iran’s Health Ministry has banned all flights between Iran and India in an effort to stop the spread of the Indian variant of the coronavirus in the country, IRNA reported on Saturday. The measures would be put in place after midnight, and would also include Pakistan.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stated earlier today that the Indian variant is a “danger facing Iran” and the potential spread of the variant would create a “huge problem” for the country. Moreover, he also ordered provinces in East and South Iran “to take precautionary measures to prevent such a problem.”
Iran is the latest in a slew of countries that are either limiting or completely prohibiting travel with India, including Canada, and Australia, as the country is struggling with containing the pandemic.
