Iran nuclear talks in an ‘unclear place’ – Sullivan
United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan (pictured) stated on Friday that the indirect talks between the US and Iran on the latter rejoining the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) are in an “unclear place.”
Speaking to the Aspen Institute, Sullivan stated that there is “willingness of all sides, including the Iranians, to talk seriously about sanctions relief and nuclear restrictions” when it comes to Iran rejoining the JCPOA, but that it is “uncertain as to whether this will culminate in a deal in Vienna in the coming weeks.” He also reiterated that the position of the US “remains simple” and that it is that “we don’t want Iran to have nuclear weapons.”
Iran has previously stated that nuclear negotiations have been making progress, adding that they believe the JCPOA should remain as it was negotiated in 2015 and that no other supplementary deals need to be added.
