Israel orders 100,000 doses of Pfizer COVID pill
The Israeli government said on Saturday it has ordered 100,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 drug Paxlovid, as the country prepared to face the Omicron coronavirus wave.
The purchase was agreed upon during a phone call between Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Pfizer’s Chief Executive Albert Bourla, according to local television Channel 12.
Paxlovid is an oral drug that is around 90% effective in preventing hospitalizations and death in patients with a high risk of developing severe COVID-19, according to Pfizer’s research, with the medicament being equally effective against the Omicron mutation.
