Italy’s new daily virus cases highest since late March
Italy’s health authorities announced on Friday that the number of newly diagnosed coronavirus cases rose by 5,372 since the previous update, the highest daily figure since March 28. The total number of infections thus reached 343,770.
The overall COVID-19 death toll now stands at 36,111, with 28 fatalities reported over the last 24 hours. A total of 237,549 patients has been cured of the disease since the beginning of the pandemic, the officials also revealed.
Earlier in the week, the country’s government reportedly extended the nationwide state of emergency until the end of January 2021 and made wearing protective masks outdoors mandatory again.
