Japan could extend state of emergency through May
Japan’s Prime Minister Abe Shinzo agreed on Sunday he will propose the extension of the countrywide state of emergency, which is set to expire on May 6, until the end of the month.
Following the meeting with Japan’s coronavirus response team leader, Nishimura Yasutoshi, and Health Minister Kato Katsunobu, Abe confirmed he will deliver the proposal to the government.
Japan has almost fully contained the outbreak, as the country is registering a very small daily increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases since the last week. Still, the focus remains on recovering the economy.
