Japan posts ¥635 billion trade deficit in August
Japan’s total merchandise trade surplus went under analysts’ projections in August, landing at ¥635.4 billion, according to a report released by the country’s Ministry of Finance on Thursday.
The figure marked a deterioration when compared to the ¥439.4B billion surplus recorded in July this year, also down on yearly basis in contrast with the surplus of ¥228 billion seen in August 2020.
The country’s exports for the time period disappointed expectations, despite rising by 46.2% year-on-year, with imports landing above the estimated number, adding 44.7% compared to the same month last year.
