Japan to ease quarantine to 10 days for vaccinated
Japan is to announce a set of measures on Thursday to ease COVID-related restrictions as a result of the vaccination program gaining momentum. This includes the reduction of quarantine requirements from two weeks to 10 days for travelers who have been vaccinated with shots approved for use in Japan – AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer.
The move comes following pressure by business groups as companies have been reluctant to send employees on trips overseas with current restrictions in place. However, it stops short of the complete exemption called for by the powerful Keidanren business lobby.
There are also plans to permit crowds of over 5,000 at events with proof of vaccination or negative tests and to let restaurants serve alcohol provided COVID-19 precautions are approved. Restrictions on operating hours are also expected to be eased, allowing trade beyond 8:00 pm.
Restrictions will be loosened on a trial basis starting next month and authorities will monitor effects on medical systems and consider tightening restrictions again if conditions worsen.
