Japan to hold general election on October 31 – report
President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Fumio Kishida (pictured) is set to be elected as the new Prime Minister of Japan later on Monday at the special plenary session of both Houses of Representatives.
Meanwhile, Japanese media reported that Kishida plans to dissolve the House of Representatives at the end of the current extraordinary session. Afterwards, the country’s general election will be held on October 31.
Kishida became the leader of the LDP earlier last week, succeeding outgoing Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. He called for a multitrillion yen stimulus package to boost the country’s economy.
