Japan urges US military on tougher measures to prevent virus
The governor of Japanese Okinawa island Denny Tamaki requested from Lieutenant General Stacy Clardy, commander of III Marine Expeditionary Force, to take more severe measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Over 60 Marines at two bases have reportedly been infected during the last few days.
Tamaki asked that Clardy stops sending soldiers from the mainland US to Okinawa and to seal the bases, adding that “it is extremely regrettable that the infections are rapidly spreading among US personnel when we Okinawans are doing our utmost to contain the infections.”
He also said he suspects that “the US military has taken adequate disease prevention measures.”
