Japanese OLED firm sues Samsung over patents
Japanese display manufacturer JOLED Inc. revealed on Tuesday that it has sued Samsung Electronics and two other Samsung tech divisions over alleged patent infringement.
The lawsuits have been filed in courts in the United States and Germany. It is claimed in the lawsuits that Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones are available on the market in the two countries despite the South Korean giant’s failure to obtain a patent license for JOLED-made display technology that has reportedly been used to produce the phones.
JOLED was founded in January 2015 in a merger involving the OLED display development divisions of Sony Corporation and Panasonic Corporation and currently “holds about 4,000 registered and pending patents related to OLED displays worldwide,” the company said in a statement.
