J&J coronavirus vaccine approved for use in EU
The European Union approved the single-shot coronavirus vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson on Thursday after it was given the go-ahead from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) earlier in the day.
“More safe and effective vaccines are coming to the market. We have just authorised the use of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine in the EU, following @EMA_News’ positive review. With the number of doses we ordered, we could vaccinate up to 200 million people in the EU,” President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said.
Earlier, the European drugs regulator issued a recommendation for the shot, which was found to be 85% effective in preventing serious COVID-19 cases.
