Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge wins men’s marathon
Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge (pictured) won the men’s marathon at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
It took Kipchoge 2:08:38s to cross the finish line, leaving the silver medalist, Dutch runner Abdi Nageeye, more than a minute behind. Belgium’s Bashir Abdi came in third, winning the bronze with a time of 2:10:00s.
The win marks Kipchoge’s second consecutive Olympic gold, as he managed to improve his score from Rio de Janeiro by six seconds. The Kenyan also set the world record in Berlin in 2018, with a time of 2:01:39.
