Kerry: China not doing enough on climate issues

United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry claimed that China is “not doing enough” to tackle climate change. He acknowledged that Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed to have “strict regulation” on coal and “be green in it” but warned that Beijing “saying it, won’t make it happen.”

“They have a massive coal dependency. We have to try to get them to move further and we have to also ask China not to be funding the building of new coal-fired power plants in other parts of the world,” Kerry said during an appearance on CNN.

Asked whether China and Russia can be trusted on their climate commitments, the US climate envoy stated that Washington it not doing anything based on “blind trust,” but will require accountability and transparency and will have systems such as real-time vision from space that will help it achieve accountability.
