Korean Air grounds 6 Boeing’s 777s after engine issue
The Korean Air Co. Ltd. became the latest airline to suspend its Boeing Co.’s 777 planes after the United States manufacturer told companies to stop flying aircraft equipped with a particular type of engine.
The grounding came after a United Airlines Inc.’s flight experienced an engine failure, prompting the US Federal Aviation Administration to issue an emergency airworthiness directive calling for “immediate or stepped-up inspections of Boeing 777 airplanes equipped with certain Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines.”
Additionally, Japan’s Civil Aviation Bureau called on all of the country’s airlines to remove aircraft with the type of engine from service.
