Kuroda: BoJ ETF buying not distorting markets
Bank of Japan (BoJ) Governor Haruhiko Kuroda rejected criticism that the institution’s purchases of exchange-traded funds (ETF) were distorting financial markets.
“We are buying ETFs as part of a comprehensive monetary easing framework. We have no plans now to end the framework or our ETF purchases,” he explained. The BoJ is currently planning to purchase up to ¥12 trillion, or $115.7 billion, of ETFs per year to sustain its program of recovery from the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this week, Kuroda praised the Japanese government and the central bank for managing to keep markets stable during the ongoing crisis.
