Kushner to visit S. Arabia, Qatar in effort to resolve dispute
Jared Kushner, United States President Donald Trump’s advisor and son-in-law, will visit Saudi Arabia and Qatar next week in an effort to help resolve the dispute between the two countries, Axios reported citing US officials.
During his trip, Kushner will meet Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Qatari Emir Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani.
Earlier this year, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated that Washington wants to “find a solution to the Gulf rift” and “close the door to increased Iranian meddling.” The dispute started in 2017, when thirteen states led by Saudi Arabia banned Qatar-registered airplanes and ships from utilizing their airspace and sea routes. The countries demand, among other things, that Qatar closes its news organization Al-Jazeera, shut down the Turkish military base inside its territory, and reduce diplomatic relations with Iran.
