La Palma volcano eruption over after three months
Spanish officials have officially declared that the volcano eruption on the island of La Palma ended after three months during which it destroyed hundreds of homes and surrounding farmland.
Fortunately, the eruption which started on September 19 didn’t directly cause human injuries or death. However, complete infrastructure on the western side of La Palma has been eradicated.
It was the largest natural disaster in La Palma since 1971 and the longest on record, with more than 7,000 evacuated from the endangered area. The infrastructure damage has been estimated at around €900 million, with the government promising immediate assistance of €225 million.
