Lavrov: NATO tries to lure new members artificially
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused on Friday the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) of trying to “artificially lure new members,” particularly Ukraine and the Scandinavian countries.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Lavrov dismissed such a policy as unnecessary now that the Cold War and the Warsaw Pact no longer exist. He also condemned the Western countries over what he described as “decisively contributing” to “a negative development of events” as “the conflict potential is accumulating.”
Lavrov’s comments come after Russia’s meeting with NATO, which Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov labeled “unsuccessful.”
