Lavrov: US failed in Afghanistan
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday that “everyone understands that” the United States military mission in Afghanistan “has failed.”
Speaking in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, after an international conference, Russia’s top diplomat noted he sees “meaningful inter-Afghan negotiations” as a source of stability and a tool that could end the armed conflict in the country. Russia is ready to “continue to work” with the US and other countries to “affect the situation in Afghanistan,” according to Lavrov.
Lavrov held a meeting with Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani earlier in the day.
