Lockdown easing in UK delayed by 4 weeks – Johnson
United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson (pictured) confirmed on Monday that the measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the country will remain in place for additional four weeks, until July 19.
Speaking at the press conference, Johnson attributed the decision to the spread of the Delta coronavirus strain, previously known as the Indian variant, adding that more time is needed to vaccinate more people, especially “among the younger population.”
“We will monitor the position every day,” Johnson said, adding that the measures can be lifted sooner if the data so dictates. “By being cautious now, we have a chance to save thousands of lives,” he concluded.
