London mayor: New restrictions inevitable
The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said on Sunday that new measures against the coronavirus pandemic are “inevitable” due to the rise in infections. “I think if we don’t bring in new restrictions sooner rather than later, you’re going to see even more positive cases and potentially public services like the NHS on the verge of collapse, if not collapsing,” he told the BBC.
Khan, a member of the Labour Party, also called on the government to recognize the challenges faced by the capital, including the economic cost of the spread of COVID-19. He insisted on a “major package of support for our hospitality, culture, and retail.”
