Malaysia appoints new PM – TeleTrader.com
The palace of the Malaysian King Al-Sultan Abdullah announced on Friday Ismail Sabri Yaakob was named the new prime minister of the country.
Ismail served as the deputy to the now-resigned Muhyiddin Yassin, who left the post after losing support in the parliament. The new leader received the support of 114 members, three more than required for a simple majority.
The appointment marks the return of the United Malays National Organisation party, which was ousted after the 1MDB fund scandal in 2018.
