Mars helicopter completes fourth flight successfully
NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter completed its fourth flight over the Martian surface, setting speed and distance records. The focus of the rotorcraft will now shift from just flying to aerial scouting functions.
“The Ingenuity technology demonstration has been a resounding success. Since Ingenuity remains in excellent health, we plan to use it to benefit future aerial platforms while prioritizing and moving forward with the Perseverance rover team’s near-term science goals,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, NASA official.
The next assignment for the Mars Helicopter will be looking ahead for targets to take rock and sediment samples in search of ancient microscopic life.
