McConnell pleased with Dems impeaching Trump – report
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is pleased with the impeachment of United States President Donald Trump that House Democrats plan to push for, The New York Times reported on Tuesday citing people close to the Republican Party.
According to sources, McConnell believes Trump should be held responsible for inciting violence at Capitol Hill and impeaching the president would make his removal from the party smoother.
Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy allegedly opposes the impeachment, but he opted not to lobby Republicans to vote against it in the US House of Representatives. He also informally discussed with the Democratic leadership in the lower chamber of the US Congress a vote on censoring Trump on social media, though House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ruled it out, the report said.
