Meta neither wants nor threatens to quit Europe
Meta is unwilling or “threatening” to quit from Europe, the company said in a press release published on Tuesday concerning a recent statement issued by a spokesperson that suggested the company might not maintain its presence in that continent.
According to the press release, recent reports are “not true,” adding that as a public company, Meta is obliged to provide risk information to its investors. However, the company reaffirms its concerns about the uncertainty of data transfer mechanisms between the US and Europe, which threatens customers. In addition, the text reiterates that Meta is closely monitoring the potential impact on the millions of people and businesses using their services.
“Like other international and European businesses, brands, and trade organizations, we hope to see continued progress in negotiations for a Privacy Shield replacement to protect transatlantic data transfers,” concluded Markus Reinisch, Vice President of Public Policy for Europe.
