Miami-Dade building collapse death toll rises to 79
The number of people that have died as a result of the building collapse in Miami-Dade county has risen to 79, according to county mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
Cava stated that the development is “staggering and heartbreaking,” as she passed on her condolences to the affected families. She also thanked the ongoing efforts to recover the bodies, saying that the emergency response teams “have given so much of themselves in these first two weeks.”
Earlier in the week, the mission in Surfside changed from rescue to recovery, as US President Joe Biden has already visited the town and the families, following his emergency declaration over the incident.
