The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will hold an emergency meeting on Friday on the unfolding situation in Afghanistan, AFP reported citing sources familiar with the matter.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg is set to chair the urgent meeting scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm CET. According to one source, the meeting is likely to focus on evacuation efforts from Afghanistan, where the Taliban have been gaining control of cities and towns in the aftermath of the US withdrawal from the country.
Meanwhile, the Taliban forces have reportedly advanced to the outskirts of Kabul, some 50 km from the Afghan capital.
