Nikkei rises as BoJ hints new monetary easing
Major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded mixed on Thursday as the coronavirus pandemic continued to prompt uncertainties in the economic activity across the Far East.
While the Bank of Japan hinted it could introduce new monetary easing measures if they become necessary, the distributor of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine in Japan argued it hasn’t been confirmed yet that the shot directly caused several death cases. The Nikkei 225 gained 0.21% at 7:17 am CET, with the dollar standing flat against the yen to sell for 110.0010.
The rest of the indices were mixed. In China, the Shanghai Composite advanced 0.58% and the Shenzhen Composite by 0.32% at 7:07 am CET, while on the other hand, the Hang Seng lost 0.12% at 7:19 am CET. The Kospi Composite fell 1.01% and the S&P/ASX 200 dropped 0.73% one minute later.
