No cancellation for Barrett SCOTUS hearings – McConnell
The United States Senate will continue confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett despite shutting down over a COVID-1 outbreak on Capitol Hill, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnel said in a statement on Saturday.
“The important work of the Senate’s committees can and will continue as each committee sees fit. The Senate Judiciary Committee will convene on October 12th as Chairman Graham has scheduled to begin confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court.”
He added that the committee has used a “hybrid” way of functioning since the start of the pandemic, with some senators present and others appearing via video link and that Republican senators are prepared to continue working in this way.
