‘No urgent need’ for boosters in EU – health agency
The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) released a report on Wednesday in regards to COVID-19 booster shots, concluding there is “no urgent need” for additional vaccine doses to be administered to vaccinated individuals in the general population.
However, the health agency noted that the option for a booster shot should be considered for those with weakened immune systems, especially if they did not respond adequately to primary vaccination.
“When assessing the need for possible booster doses… it is important to keep in mind the main objective of the vaccination strategy (i.e. preventing severe cases of COVID-19). Vaccine effectiveness against severe disease should preferably be chosen as the primary outcome of interest for assessing whether there is a clear need for a booster dose in specific groups,” the official statement read.
