Pandemic in Sydney to get worse before it gets better – official
New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian (pictured) stated that the coronavirus situation in Sydney will get “worse before it gets better.”
Berejiklian cautioned Sydney residents to potentially expect further extensions to the imposed lockdown, saying that it is vital to reduce the number of infections in the community or the state “won’t be able to turn things around as quickly as we can or as quickly as we should.” Additionally, she noted that the “full effect” of the lockdown won’t be seen until the next few days and that the length of it will ultimately depend on the actions of individuals.
New South Wales has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases recently, with the latest data showing the largest daily increase in cases since the pandemic began. Sydney has already extended its lockdown once, and the new date for it to end is July 17.
