Peskov: Non-vaccination fines in Russia unrealistic
Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Monday that imposing fines on citizens unwilling to vaccinate would “contradict the social character” of the Russian state.
Addressing the proposal of virologist Alexander Lukashev to introduce such penalties, Peskov said that the measures would be “unrealistic in our country” and that the focus should be on the conscientiousness of citizens and promoting the understanding that “that there is no other way to protect their lives, except for being vaccinated.”
Lukashev, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, earlier suggested on the radio that direct penalties of 5,000 rubles (around $70) might be suitable.
