Pfizer, BioNTech apply for vaccine use among EU children
Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE announced on Friday they have applied with the European Medicines Agency for the regulatory approval of emergency use of their COVID-19 vaccine among children aged between 12 and 15 years.
The application, which has also been introduced in the United States earlier in April, comes after positive data from clinical trials that included 2,260 participants of the same age. The jab is currently approved for emergency use both in the US and in the EU for everyone older than 16.
Earlier this month, Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Rochelle Walensky estimated the vaccine could get the green light for use among 12-15-year-old children by the middle of May.
