Pompeo, Saudi prince agree on need for Gulf unity
United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz agreed on the need to establish unity in the Persian Gulf in order to counter Iran’s “aggressive” behavior in the region, the State Department revealed in a statement.
The two also committed to finding a solution to the political situation with regards to the conflict in Yemen and went on to discuss their bilateral relations, praising the “strong economic partnership” and security, with Popeo going on to emphasize the importance of Riyadh continuing its human rights reform.
“Our security and economic partnership is strong and we’ll continue to harness it to advance efforts to counter malign Iranian influence in the Gulf, economic goals under the Vision 2030 plan, and human rights reform,” Pompeo wrote on Twitter after the meeting.
