Pompeo: US appreciates China medical supplies
United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (pictured) spoke to a top Chinese official on Wednesday and called for full transparency and information sharing in the fight against coronavirus pandemic, State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.
In a phone call with Yang Jiechi, Director of the Office of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China, Pompeo said that the US “attached high importance” to China’s facilitation of medical supply exports to meet the rising demand for these products in his country.
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump told the press he instructed his administration to halt the country’s funding of the World Health Organization (WHO). The president said funds will be temporarily stopped while the situation is further investigated, citing failure to ensure timely and accurate sharing of information as the reason for the decision.
