Reasons for EU sanctions absurd – Russian mission
The reasoning behind the sanctions the European Union imposed on Russia concerning the suspected poisoning of Alexey Navalny is “absurd,” the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the bloc said in a statement issued on Friday.
“Of course there is no mention of any real evidence. We consider the EU’s attempts to use the authority of the United Nations to cover up its unseemly political goals as absolutely unacceptable,” it read. The statement also warned Brussels’s move would “not remain unanswered.”
Earlier this week, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said the EU’s “illicit” sanctions could have “serious consequences,” while Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov described them as “a deliberate unfriendly step.”
