Rees-Mogg named UK minister for Brexit
United Kingdom House of Commons Leader Jacob Rees-Mogg (pictured) has been appointed on Tuesday as the British government’s minister of state in charge of “Brexit opportunities and government efficiency,” according to a Downing Street statement released on Tuesday.
At the same time, it was announced that Mark Spencer, a high-ranking member of parliament from the Conservative Party, will replace Rees-Mogg as the leader of the House of Commons.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson promised last week he would fix the “fragmented and complicated leadership structures of Downing Street” after an official report on parties held in government buildings during coronavirus lockdown in 2020 and 2021 blamed “failures of leadership and judgment” for the scandal.
