Roger Stone prosecutor says he was pressured
Aaron Zelinsky, one of four prosecutors who had resigned from the case against the United States President Donald Trump’s friend and associate Roger Stone (pictured), said that interim US Attorney for the District of Columbia Timothy Shea endured “heavy pressure from the highest levels of the DoJ [Department of Justice] to cut Stone a break.”
In a statement published ahead of his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Zelinsky revealed that “Roger Stone was being treated differently from any other defendant” because of his links with the president. Citing information he has received, the prosecutor also claimed that Stone received “unprecedentedly favorable treatment” as Shea was “afraid” of Trump.
In February, Stone was nevertheless sentenced to 40 months in prison for obstruction of justice, witness tampering and making false statements to Congress. Subsequently, he decided to appeal the conviction.
