Russia ceases firing for civilians to evacuate from Mariupol
Russia and Ukraine agreed to a temporary ceasefire on Saturday to open humanitarian corridors for civilians to be able to evacuate from besieged cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha.
According to Ukrainian presidential aide Mikhail Podolyak, around 200,000 people are trying to flee the port town of Mariupol, with another 20,000 looking to escape Volnovakha.
The ceasefire is expected to last for five hours and end in the afternoon. “Given that our hometown is constantly under ruthless fire from the occupiers, there is no other solution,” Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boychenko was cited by Ria News as saying.
