Russia expects jump in COVID-19 cases in November
Deputy Director of Russia’s Central Research Institute of Epidemiology Alexander Gorelov said on Monday that the number of new coronavirus infections in the country is expected to rise in November.
Gorelov added that the ultimate solution to the pandemic will “undisputedly” be a vaccine, but stressed it is still unclear how long Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine will protect from the virus.
Last week, Russia’s Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that all regions in the country will receive the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology’s vaccine Sputnik V, the first and, so far, only coronavirus vaccine to be approved for use in the world. Russia has reported a total of 1,068,320 COVID-19 cases and 18,635 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
