Russia fines TikTok over calls to anti-govt protests
Moscow’s Tagansky District Magistrates’ Court ruled on Tuesday that TikTok should pay 2.5 million rubles (approximately $32,700) for failing to remove from the platform calls to teenagers to attend an anti-government protest.
The court stated that the social media platform was guilty of the “violation of the procedure for restricting access to information,” as translated by Tass. The lawsuit was brought by Russian authorities, in response to messages being spread on the platform urging teenagers to attend protests prompted by Alexei Navalny’s imprisonment.
The court still has to rule on lawsuits brought against Facebook, Google, Twitter, and Telegram on the same charges.
