Russia intercepts US plane over Barents Sea – MoD
Russia intercepted an aircraft belonging to the United States over the Barents Sea, Moscow’s Ministry of Defense confirmed on Thursday.
The American P-8A Poseidon airplane was intercepted by a MiG-31 because it was nearing Russian territory, the ministry added.
Earlier, the US announced its intent to leave the Open Skies Treaty which allows participating states to conduct observational flights over each other’s territories. However, Washington said at the time that the US may change its mind if Russia starts complying fully with the treaty. This week, Russia conducted a flight over American bases in Germany.
