Russia: Millions of vaccine doses monthly by 2021
Russia will produce several millions of doses of anti-coronavirus vaccine per month by 2021, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov (pictured) told TASS on Monday.
“At the same time, according to preliminary estimates, due to the launch of contract platforms this year we will be able to ensure the production of several hundred thousand doses of vaccine per month with a subsequent increase to several million by the beginning of next year. We will do our best to make sure that these plans are implemented,” he said.
It was recently reported Russia aims to become the first country in the world to approve a COVID-19 vaccine. The country’s Vector State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology later announced it may start mass production of its anti-coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2020, while Health Minister Mikhail Murashko stated Moscow was preparing to start a mass vaccination campaign in October.
