Russia reaches COVID-19 plateau – Watchdog
Russia’s Head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Anna Popova said on Friday that the country has reached the coronavirus plateau. This came after the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova noted that the mortality rate from the coronavirus in the country is likely to significantly rise in May.
During the Friday’s online meeting on the coronavirus situation, in which President Vladimir Putin took part as well, Popova stated that “researchers and medical practitioners are clear that, according to the monitoring data and the analysis of the situation, things are stabilizing and a downward trend is emerging.”
She added that the current situation can be described as a stable plateau, but that it needs further measures and compliance with all sanitary regulations. To date, a total of 326,448 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia, with 3,245 deaths recorded.
